Noosa Malibu Club January Competition Results
The torrential rain didn’t deter twenty five members of Noosa Malibu Club from conducting the January competition day held on Australia Day at First Point. Arguably the best surf we have had for a competition day so far this year with glassy conditions for most of the morning, thanks to the rain, and a solid three foot swell.
It was great to be able to run the comp at First Point again even though it was a little crowded at some stages but everyone seemed to get plenty of waves. In the men’s Matt Cuddihy put on a performance of great log surfing to win both his heats for maximum points for the day followed closely by the ever consistent Mick Corcoran. Lucy won both the women’s heats from Sophie and Jane but the Junior boys mixed it up a bit with Lyndon taking the points from an improved Jarad just ahead of Noah.
It was a celebration day not only because it was Australia Day but also because it was our new secretary Lucy’s eighteen birthday. A birthday cake of good old Aussie lamingtons was the only option.
A fitting day to also welcome our newest member Ozzie Arikan on Aussie Day, even though he is a Kiwi but we won’t hold that against him.
So far for the year we have had thirty eight members compete in the competition. In the men’s division Mick Corcoran has extended his lead so unless he breaks a leg he is almost unbackable. Jane is holding on in the women’s but Lucy and Sophie are starting to close the gap and Noah is well ahead in the juniors but Jyndon and Jarad are on the march so it ain’t over yet boys. I haven’t worked out who is winning the various age divisions at this stage so I will leave that as a surprise until presentation day.
I’m off to Hawaii on a photo shoot, part of which is the Standup World Tour event at Sunset Beach but I will be back just in time for the February competition day on Sunday 19th. Meet at the Noosa Surf Club carpark at 6.30am. New and old members welcome.
